No ballot? No problem, contact county clerk

THE GAZETTE

If you’re a registered voter but didn’t get a ballot in the mail last week, it’s probably because you moved but didn’t update your address with the county clerk’s office.

The office of the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder, Bob Balink, said Tuesday that out of 278,000 ballots mailed last week for the Nov. 3 election, about 9,000 ballots had been returned as undeliverable. To cut down on voting fraud, the Postal Service is forbidden by law to forward ballots.

Balink’s office said people who are registered but have an old address on file can still get a ballot by going to the county clerk’s downtown office at 200 S. Cascade Ave. It’s open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day.

Voters uncertain about whether their current address is on file can check their own voter registration details at the state secretary of state’s Web site, www.sos.state.co.us.
