USA Basketball considers Springs, 3 other cities

   The national governing body for U.S. basketball is considering four cities for its headquarters, including a new location in Colorado Springs. 


    USA Basketball announced Tuesday it will keep its national offices in Colorado Springs or move to Glendale, Ariz., Indianapolis or Louisville, Ky. 


    A decision is expected by the Beijing Games in August, with a possible relocation taking place in 2009, USA Basketball executive director Jim Tooley said. 


    "Each of the cities provides an excellent opportunity for USA Basketball," Tooley said. "I don't want to get into comparing the bids. All of them warrant serious consideration, and they have the full attention of our organization."
    Tooley said leaders from about a dozen cities responded to the request for proposal USA Basketball issued in September. 


    The four finalists were selected by a 10-person USA Basketball executive committee. USA Basketball officials will visit each city in the next two months. Tooley declined to discuss specifics of the proposals. 


    Thirteen USA Basketball employees work at an 18,000-square-foot building on Mark Dabling Boulevard, seven miles from the Olympic Training Center. The NGB owns the building but not the OTC gymnasiums where it often holds youth camps.
    USA Basketball moved to the OTC from Jacksonville, Ill., in 1979. It began operations at its current building in 1993.
