THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

"Tears in the Darkness: The Story of the Bataan Death March and Its Aftermath" by Michael Norman and Elizabeth M. Norman

A new account of the Bataan Death March, in which more than 70,000 American and Filipino prisoners of war were victims of barbarism - a particularly grim episode of World War II after Japan's invasion of the Philippines.

The fact that the story has been told many times before does not dissuade the Normans, professors at New York University, from another effort. The result is an extremely detailed and thoroughly chilling treatment that, given time, could serve as popular history's final say on the subject.

Harrison school district closer to pay for performance for teachers
Should teacher pay be based on performance?
Yes. Teachers should be rewarded for good work, and poor performers should be weeded out.
No. Pay for performance is just a back-door way of blaming teachers for other problems in the education system.
It depends on what "performance" means. It's good if there's a fair measurement of performance.
Undecided.
