Bear takes up residence in Tiger country

THE GAZETTE

A black bear became the unexpected homecoming guest at Colorado College last weekend.

It took up residence in a tree southeast of the college library, near most of the activities on the quad.

Wildlife officials were reluctant to tranquilize the bear because that would upset its hibernation patterns and it likely wouldn't survive the winter. Fortunately, CC campus safety officers were able to lure the bear down overnight Sunday with marshmallows.

The bear was last seen a few blocks south of campus near Monument Creek.
