THE GAZETTE

A Colorado Springs man trying to prevent crime in his neighborhood was taken to the hospital after being hit with a stick by a neighbor.

According to the Colorado Springs Police blotter, a woman in the 5300 block of Ferrari Drive woke up early this morning after hearing strange noises. She saw two juveniles checking door handles on cars parked on the street, the blotter said.

She alerted her husband, who went outside to thwart any criminal activity, the blotter said. When he spotted two people inside a truck, they ran and the man chased them.

One teen jumped a fence and the man followed. The teen landed awkwardly and broke his leg. The man was hit on the head with a wooden walking stick by the homeowner of the yard they were in, the blotter said.

The man was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle for a cut on his head; the 16-year-old was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Charges are pending on a second juvenile, according to the blotter.

STEALING SPREE

A man was arrested just after midnight after allegedly stealing items from Dick's Sporting Goods, 1710 Briargate Blvd.

According to the blotter, Colorado Springs Police officers were called to Wal-Mart, 8250 Razorback Blvd., after a man attempted to steal a pellet gun and television and was then causing a disturbance.

Officers said they found 22-year-old Seth Dahlin near Wal-Mart with a BB gun sporting a security sticker from Dick's Sporting Goods. An investigation revealed Dahlin allegedly broke a window at Dick's, entered the business and stole the BB gun.
