How to get involved

There are many options for serving on volunteer boards that help set policy for the city government and nonprofit groups. Hundreds of charities are based in Colorado Springs, and the city has dozens of boards that advise City Council.

-- For details about city boards and commissions, visit www.springsgov.com/ccbindex.asp.

-- The Colorado Springs Diversity Forum can help people get involved with volunteer boards; visit www.cospdiversityforum.org.

-- The El Pomar Foundation’s Emerging Leaders Development Program helps prepare people in southern Colorado and Pueblo for service on government and nonprofit boards. For details visit www.elpomar.org; click on Programs and then on Emerging Leaders. Or call 577-7081.

The El Pomar Foundation’s Forum for Civic Advancement will hold a “how to” seminar March 12 with information about getting involved with boards and commissions. The event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Penrose House, 1661 Mesa Ave. Organizers request an RSVP by March 7 to Amy Humble, 577-7088 or ahumble@elpomar.org.
