THE GAZETTE

The El Paso County Coroner's Office does not know the age or gender of human bones found in Fountain Creek over the weekend.
It also has not determined how long the bones might have sat in the creek.

A human femur, or thigh bone, was discovered Saturday by a man walking along the creek. Fountain police later collected several more bones from the same area. The bones were given to the El Paso County Coroner's Office on Tuesday.

The coroner's office said it was trying to determine if the various bones were all human or a combination of human and animal bones, and a forensic anthropologist would need to examine the remains to see if a gender and age of the person could be determined, or the age of the remains themselves, it said.
