Four Scouts receive awards at Friends of Scouting breakfast
Four Boy Scouts received the 2010 Summit Awards during Wednesday’s Friends of Scouting Breakfast at the Antlers Hilton.
The Pikes Peak Council breakfast was part of the national 100th anniversary year celebration by Boy Scouts of America.
The crowd of 600 Scouts, volunteers and sponsors cheered Ryan Dewey, Jacob Fox, Andrew Gord and Raymond Grossman.
Ryan, an Eagle Scout with Troop 2, volunteers at Challenger Learning Center, traveled with a KICK (Kids in Christ Helping Kids) team to assist victims of Hurricane Ike in Galveston, Texas, and planned a cost-saving project to replace areas of dead grass at Mission Medical Clinic with mulch instead of sod.
Jacob, an Eagle Scout with Troop 1, planned, coordinated and led the renovation of Laveta Trail and Trailhead in memory of a fellow Cheyenne Mountain High School student killed by a hit-and-run driver. He has logged more than 130 hours volunteering with Marian House Soup Kitchen.
Andrew is a Webelos Scout in Pack 115 and volunteers with Dreampower Animal Rescue.
Raymond, an Eagle Scout with Troop 18, planned and built a climbing wall at Manitou Springs Middle School. He is concertmaster of the Palmer High School Chamber Orchestra, the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony and the Pikes Peak Honors Orchestra.
Photos and information about the fundraising breakfast will run in Nonprofits Around Town in the March 7 Life section.
