Bruce to face contempt charge today

THE GAZETTE

Anti-tax activist Douglas Bruce is due in court at 9:30 a.m. today to face a possible contempt charge over his resisting grand jury subpoenas that he contends were defective.

Fourth Judicial District Judge Kirk Samelson has ordered Bruce to show cause why he should not be held in contempt of court for failing to appear before the grand jury as ordered.

Bruce filed a motion to quash the two subpoenas, arguing that one was unsigned and the other was not timely.

District Attorney Dan May countered that case law does not require that the subpoenas be signed and that Bruce was given the required 48 hours notice prior to his grand jury appearance.
