BUILDING
GAZETTE'S PICK: Edith Kinney Gaylord Cornerstone Arts Center
With all that copper, the jutting roof lines and that metallic bricking, Cornerstone seems as much spaceship as modern edifice. The $33.4 million building, which celebrated its official opening in October, is more than a pretty face. Designed by award-winning architect Antoine Predock, the 72,419-square-foot space combines beauty and utility in a very 21st century way as both indisciplinary classroom and arts destination. "It's a demolition derby of ideas," Predock told The Gazette. "But the building was designed to facilitate creativity. The design is not neutral. The space itself will shape activity."
