Survey focuses on Springs' business climate

THE GAZETTE

A new nonprofit group started by a former Gazette editor is surveying Colorado Springs-area business owners and senior executives about the area's business climate as part of efforts to help build a stronger local economy.

Cheyenne Mountain Civic Solutions has asked more than 5,000 business owners and managers to fill out the 13-question online survey by April 18. Questions range from tax and regulatory policies to airline, electrical and telecommunications services.

The results are scheduled to be released at an April 30 luncheon and panel discussion on "Building a Vibrant Economy" at Cheyenne Mountain Resort as part of Limited Government Week.

The group, formed in August, is funded by local businessman and limited-government activist Joe Woodford and headed by Jon Stepleton, a former editor of The Gazette who is now executive director of the Pikes Peak Community College Foundation. The survey is being conducted by Summit Economics, a new company formed by longtime local economists David Bamberger, Tom Binnings and Paul Rochette.

Survey participants must be a local business owner or manager, executive, or senior local manager for a regional, national or international operation.
