DA: Deputy justified in Wal-Mart parking lot shooting

An El Paso County Sheriff's deputy was justified in firing a shot at a car speeding toward him in a Wal-mart parking lot in December, the District Attorney's Office announced today.

Deputy Glenn Boarman was in the parking lot at 3201 E. Platte Ave. with other deputies Dec. 18 looking for Joshua Kenyon, who had several outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants for his arrest.

The deputies saw Kenyon and woman in a stolen car and walked up to the car wearing their badges and t-shirts that said "Sheriff" down the sleeve.

As the deputies tried to stop the car, Kenyon, in the driver's seat, accelerated forward toward the deputies. Boarman fired a single shot into the car's windshield and the car stopped.

"Had the vehicle continued forward, Deputy Boarman would have been in the direct path of the vehicle," the DA said in a release.

No one was injured in the incident.
