New limits raise Colorado casino hopes for 2009
Colorado casinos have high hopes for 2009, but they would like to forget 2008, when they experienced a decline in revenue by the worst margin since 1991, when gaming was legalized in the state.
The state's gaming industry was buoyed by the approval of Amendment 50 in November, which allows for higher betting limits, longer hours and new games in Cripple Creek, Black Hawk and Central City beginning July 1.
Cripple Creek's 2008 was aided somewhat by the opening of the new Wildwood Casino in May, but the casino had to restructure its finances in January of this year.
