Grandfather arrested in death of 8-month-old boy
The grandfather of an 8-month-old boy who died Tuesday of head injuries was arrested Thursday on suspicion of first-degree murder in the infant's death and is being held on no bond in the El Paso County jail.
Isiah Wilson died from a blow to the head, an autopsy determined. The infant's death is the fourth homicide this year in unincorporated El Paso County.
Willie B. Allmon, the child's 51-year-old grandfather, has a lengthy criminal history, according to Colorado court documents, and is a registerd sex offender. He initially was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of felony child abuse and was released after posting a $25,000 bond.
An arrest warrant accusing him of first-degree murder was issued after the child died, sheriff's spokeswoman Lt. Lari Sevene said.
Allmon's criminal record in Colorado includes domestic violence and abuse, restraining orders and sexual offenses, according to court documents. In 1998, he was arrested for aggravated incest and sexual assault. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor sex offense, court records show.
No other details were available about the 1998 crime, although according to the sex offender registry, he was charged with child fondling.
Deputies were called Monday night to a home at 46 N. Albion St. in the Security-Widefield area where they found an unconscious infant having difficulty breathing.
The child was taken to a local hospital, where he remained on life support until about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
