Monument home searched in child porn investigation

THE GAZETTE

The raid of a Monument home Wednesday afternoon was the latest step in an ongoing child pornography investigation by Colorado Springs police.

A home at 288 Candletree Circle was searched at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Sgt. Bill Dehart, a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Computers seized from the residence are being checked for traces of crimes committed against children and online distribution of child pornography.

No arrest has been made

"This is a small piece to a larger puzzle," Dehart said.

Several arrests have been made as part of the investigation, which has spanned several weeks. Dehart said the crime is Internet-based and is not a local child porn trading ring. Details were sparse Thursday.

Sandy Bravine, 63, has lived in the Monument neighborhood for 14 years. She lives two doors down from the home under investigation. She has seen people and cars come and go, but doesn't know the people who live there.

"They seemed like normal people," Bravine said. "Those of us who have lived in the neighborhood for a long time were surprised."

This month alone, there have been five arrests statewide relating to possible crimes against children, according to the Internet Crimes against Children Task Force Web site. So far this year, there have been 56 arrests.

Harrison school district closer to pay for performance for teachers
Should teacher pay be based on performance?
Yes. Teachers should be rewarded for good work, and poor performers should be weeded out.
No. Pay for performance is just a back-door way of blaming teachers for other problems in the education system.
It depends on what "performance" means. It's good if there's a fair measurement of performance.
Undecided.
