Community college wins $300K prize

Pikes Peak Community College won the $300,000 grand prize in the Zunesis Extreme Data Center Makeover Challenge and will use the money to convert administrative chores to virtual desktop technology at its Centennial Campus.

The virtual desktop infrastructure improves computer response speed and allows for energy savings because the system shuts down some components when not in use, said PPCC President Tony Kinkel.
