The week ahead in Colorado politics
Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper will become Colorado’s 42nd governor Tuesday, and the General Assembly convenes Wednesday. A sampling of the week’s events:
TUESDAY
• 8:30 a.m.: Hickenlooper submits his resignation letter, and Bill Vidal is officially sworn in as mayor.
• 10 a.m.: Inaugural ceremony outside the state Capitol for all statewide-elected officials, including treasurer and secretary of state. Cost: Free. Seating begins at 8 a.m. but is limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Noon: Hickenlooper and Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia host a luncheon at the Denver Art Museum for the nine winning classes of the “My Colorado” student contest. (Invitation only.)
• 5:30 p.m.: Barbecue dinner and dancing at the Fillmore Auditorium, 1510 Clarkson St. Cost: $100. Ticketed guests only.
• 9 p.m.: Concert at the Ogden Theatre, 935 E. Colfax Ave., featuring OneRepublic and a “special guest.” Cost: $75. Ticketed guests only.
WEDNESDAY
• 10 a.m.: 2011 legislative session opens.
• 11 a.m.: Bill Vidal ceremonial inauguration as Denver mayor, atrium of the Wellington E. Webb Municipal Office Building, 201 W. Colfax Ave., according to a news release. Cost: Free. Seating is limited.
THURSDAY
• 11 a.m.: Hickenlooper delivers his first State of the State speech, in the House chambers.
