Sunny day offers warm start to weekend

THE GAZETTE

While today will be sunny and warm, the chance of clouds and rain showers will increase throughout the weekend.

Today, you can forget your jacket as the high temperature climbs to 83 degrees under mostly sunny skies.

Saturday, it’s just a 10 percent chance of showers in the afternoon. The high is expected to be 85 degrees.

The high temperature drops to 74 degrees Sunday, and the chance of showers and thunderstorms jumps to 20 percent.

STILL LOOKING FOR TEEN DRIVERS

It’s the last day for teen drivers to fill out a AAA Colorado survey about their driving habits. Officials want to find out whether Colorado teens engage in text messaging and other habits that distract from driving.

A nationwide survey showed 46 percent of teens admitted to text messaging while driving.

The survey can be found at www.aaa.com/teens (enter Zip code to view teen page).

Survey participants who register can win a new Dell laptop computer, and 100 participants will receive a $10 gift certificate from Beau Jo’s Colorado Style Pizza, which has several Colorado locations including Denver and Fort Collins, but none in the Springs.

CAN THE ROCKIES MAKE IT?

The Colorado Rockies start a three-game series at San Diego, one that is pivotal to their wild card chances, at 8 p.m. on FSN (850 AM).

There is a full high school schedule including Air Academy at Sierra and Falcon at Harrison in football. Colorado College hosts Nebraska Wesleyan in men's soccer at 3 p.m. The "Bell Game" pits Pueblo Centennial vs. Pueblo Central on 105.5 FM/1240 AM.

Oklahoma visits Tulsa in football at 6 p.m. on ESPN2. The Brewers are at the Braves at 5 p.m. on ESPN. The U.S. plays Sweden in Davis Cup tennis shown on Versus at 10 a.m. The Nextel Cup Dodge Dealers 400 qualifying is at 1 p.m. on ESPN2. The Busch RoadLoans.com 200 practice is at 11:30 a.m. on the Speed channel.

The PGA's Turning Stone Championship is on the Golf channel at 1 p.m. The Dew Tour action sports stop is at 10 p.m. on USA. Early Saturday, the U.S. plays England in Women's World Cup soccer at 6 a.m. on ESPN2, and Germany faces North Korea at 3 a.m. on ESPN2.

Harrison school district closer to pay for performance for teachers
Should teacher pay be based on performance?
Yes. Teachers should be rewarded for good work, and poor performers should be weeded out.
No. Pay for performance is just a back-door way of blaming teachers for other problems in the education system.
It depends on what "performance" means. It's good if there's a fair measurement of performance.
