THE GAZETTE

A Fountain man died Sunday night on Interstate 25 after a tire on a 1990 Toyota 4-Runner blew, causing the vehicle to roll twice.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, Ronald Tweedy, Jr., 32, was driving north on I-25 near milepost 119 south of Colorado Springs just before 8 p.m. when the incident occurred.

Tweedy was thrown from the vehicle after he lost control of the Toyota, which ran into the median, spun and rolled before stopping in the southbound lane. He was flown to Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead just after 9 p.m., according to the Colorado State Patrol. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

A 1-year-old child in a safety seat was a passenger in the 4-Runner and was taken to Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.
