County may be Pioneers Museum's white knight
City and county officials are trying to come up with an interim plan that would keep the Pioneers Museum from closing, county spokesman Dave Rose said Thursday.
“The county administrator and the city manager have been discussing doing something along those lines,” Rose said. Nothing concrete has yet emerged, he added.
Reeling from budget shortfalls, city officials have said numerous facilities may have to be shuttered next year, including the Pioneers Museum.
Completed in 1903, the two-story stone structure sits at the corner of Tejon Street and Vermijo Avenue. For many decades, it served as the El Paso County Courthouse.
“The county feels a special affinity toward the facility,” said Rose.
