Couple arrested in girl's death waives extradition
A couple accused in the death of a 7-year-old girl whose body was found in the crawl space of a Monument home has agreed to be extradited to Colorado, according to Nevada court records.
Hanif Sims and Monique Lynch were arrested last week in Henderson, Nev., after nearly a two-month search after the body of Sims’ daughter, Genesis, was found by a construction worker renovating the family’s former home. The cause of the girl’s death has yet to be determined.
“Just because they waived (extradition) doesn’t mean they’ll be back here immediately,” El Paso County sheriff’s spokeswoman Lt. Lari Sevene said Tuesday. “We still have to make arrangements.”
New Jersey also has a claim on Lynch on a drug-related probation violation, although Sevene said typically the more serious charge she faces in Colorado would take precedence.
EDITOR'S NOTE: This story has been changed to reflect the correct age of Genesis Sims.
