Van driver cited in fatal crash with off-duty cop

THE GAZETTE

The driver involved in a crash that killed an off-duty Colorado Springs police officer Michael Builta has been cited with failure to yield during a left turn and careless driving resulting in a death.

Pei “Laura” Chee Lo, 36, of Colorado Springs was issued the traffic tickets Wednesday. She is due to appear in court at 9 a.m. Sept. 9.

Builta, a four-year-veteran, died July 13 when Lo's minivan turned in front of his 2008 Harley Davidson Electra Glide at the intersection of Tutt Boulvard and Barnes Road, police allege.

The 34-year-old officer was married with three children.

Lo’s 11-year-old daughter was treated at Denver Children’s Hospital but has since recovered from a head injury.
