Look for slightly warmer temperatures today

THE GAZETTE

After a frigid weekend with roads as slick as an ice rink, the Colorado Springs Police Department came off of accident-alert status this morning.

The cold temperatures combined with ice covering roads led to hundreds of crashes over the weekend, including one fatal crash in El Paso County that killed a 27-year-old Colorado Springs man.

Police received 282 calls of traffic crashes from 6 a.m. Saturday to noon Sunday. Because of the alert status, there were probably several crashes that officers don’t yet know about.

The weather should start warming up today, according to the National Weather Service. The service predicts a high of 49 degrees today, but a chance of freezing drizzle before 8 a.m.

By Thursday, temperatures are predicted to be in the 60s.
