Body found in Monument Creek identified

The El Paso County Coroner has been able to identify the man found last week in Monument Creek,

The body of Steve Gallegos, 37, of Colorado Springs was found trapped underneath a fallen tree and other debris on Aug. 31, said Sgt. Steve Noblitt,

Police said the body appeared to be decomposing, but they are not sure how long it was in the creek.

An autopsy could not determine a cause or manner of death, Noblitt said.

“The initial investigation has not revealed anything that seems suspicious at this point,” Noblitt said.
