TABLE TALK: Crystal Rose to offer buffet at breakfast
The former El Palenque Mexican Restaurant, 2165 Academy Place, will become a Crystal Rose wedding and event center. It will be the fifth in the Denver-based company. There will be a breakfast and lunch buffet served 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays through Fridays.

A sweet place
Heidi Cottrill, an award-winning pastry chef, will open Chef Sugar’s Cakes and Confections at 6942 N. Academy Blvd. (the former Great Harvest Bread Co.) in October. The cake studio will have an open kitchen where you can have a cup of coffee and a sweet treat while watching the pastry chef in action. Classes will be offered, too.
Hours will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. Visit chefsugar.com.
Name change
Peter Aiello, former owner and chef at Alpine Chef catering, has sold the business to The Pinery Catering. He will still be the chef but someone else will be paying the bills. The Pinery Catering is part of The Pinery at Black Forest wedding and event center. Visit thepinerycatering.com.
New hours and additions
Pizzeria Rustica, 2527 W. Colorado Ave., has new winter hours: 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, noon to 9 p.m. Fridays through Sundays.
The pizzeria will have Local Food Fortnight Tuesday through Sept. 26, featuring fresh produce from Venetucci Farms. A portion of the proceeds will go to Peak to Plains Alliance.
The owners’ next adventure will be opening TAPAteria, a Spanish wine and tapas bar, at 2607 W. Colorado Ave., in October.
Wine classes
Darby Gould, with Coaltrain Wine & Spirits, will teach an introductory wine class at The Warehouse Restaurant from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 29. Cost is $30 per person. Call 475-9700 for reservations.
New at Giuseppe’s
Brent Beavers, executive chef at Giuseppe’s Old Depot Restaurant, 10 S. Sierra Madre St., is gearing up for some special dinners. There will be a Literary Dinner at 6 p.m. Nov. 7 with an “Oliver” theme. Cost is $60 for five courses.
He will have an Italian white wine and olive oil tasting 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 24. Look for a spooky red wine tasting and costume contest 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 29 for Halloween.

Shuttered
• Fix-a-Feast, 5901 Delmonico Drive, has closed, but the owners will continue catering from their home. They will also be doing prepared meals, which they will deliver. Call 488-3889.
