Progressive to hire 95 by end of June for Springs call center

Insurance giant Progressive Corp. said Tuesday it plans to hire 95 employees by the end of June for customer service and sales positions at its Colorado Springs call center, citing continued growth of its vehicle insurance business.

Ohio-based Progressive wants telephone representatives to sell policies or answer customer questions. The company requires two years of post-high school education or two years of experience in a customer service position as well as at least one year with a previous employer. The jobs pay $12 to $15 an hour; benefits include paid training, tuition assistance, on-site cafeteria, health clinic and fitness center, child-care subsidies, maternity services and other parenting resources as well as medical, dental, vision and life insurance.

“Our business is continuing to grow, and we need energetic, customer-focused people who are experienced at and passionate about offering great customer service,” Katie Koch, Progressive’s recruiting director, said in a press release announcing the hiring plans. “We offer benefits like flexible work arrangements, potential bonuses based on company performance and a casual dress code.”

Progressive reported its first-quarter premium revenue rose 3 percent from a year earlier to $3.9 billion with much of the growth coming from consumers who buy insurance directly from the company by telephone or online rather than through an insurance agent. During the January-to-March period, the company added 327,300 policies directly from consumers and 164,600 policies through agents. Profit for the quarter jumped 23 percent to $363 million.

The company added 200 employees to its local workforce last year. Progressive employs 1,500 at its campus in the Northgate business park on the city’s northern tip, which also includes information technology, printing and mailing operations, as well as one of the company’s two data centers.
