Dancers help add diversity to festival

The Colorado Springs Cultural and Diversity Festival at America the Beautiful Park on Saturday proved to be fun for all.

There were booths representing many cultures, people selling artistic creations and native food, free crafts for all the children and young volunteers wearing yellow T-shirts picking up every bit of trash and handing out information.

Groups of dancers represented many cultural groups in Colorado Springs, including Hawaiian, Panamanian, Mexican, African and taekwondo.

Children were given passports to be stamped at the booths, then turned in for a drawing for toys, a bicycle, and a $1,000 college scholarship.

A little girl next to me really wanted the scholarship. “College is so important,” she said. She didn’t win, but I told her a positive attitude ensures success.

The setting at America the Beautiful Park was perfect. The weather, the Julie Penrose Fountain, the playground, the delicious food, and the obvious diversity of all attendees all added up to an ideal day at the park.

“Everybody Welcome” was the name of the event, and that says it all.
