SUNRISE: Fair skies expected for Democrats' big party
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Well, the Democrats can sigh with relief.
It's doesn't look like it is going to rain on their party tonight in Denver. This lays to rest the prayers for rain that a Focus on the Family official recently suggested sort of kiddingly. It should be a mild evening, at least weather-wise, when 75,000 people flood Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium for the presidential nominee's speech.
Today in Colorado Springs the skies should be a sunny 83 degrees It's a bit cooler because of a cold front.
But if you are like us, you are probably more interested in what is in store for the three-day Labor Day weekend. If you aren't an umbrella salesman, you should be quite happy. Saturday and Sunday likely will be around 85 degrees, according to the National Weather Service: perfect weather for the annual Colorado Balloon Classic at Memorial Park.
Monday, which is the official end of summer, should be a bit cloudy with some rain possible. Enjoy it while you can. But you might even want to take some time out from those picnics to oil your snow shovel. It's only seven or eight weeks until those early snow storms usually hit.
SCHOOL FUNDING
• Board members of Lewis Palmer School District 38 will meet at 8 a.m. Friday to decide whether to ask November voters to increase property taxes for school funding. A mill levy override would be used to make teachers' salaries competitive with other districts, and to fund student programs.
Colorado Springs School District 11, on Wednesday evening voted to do the same.
