Last flight for police chopper

THE GAZETTE

The Colorado Springs Police Department will be retiring its helicopter unit at the end of the year and is holding a ceremony Tuesday to recognize the officers who served with it.

The department’s two police helicopters are being sold to help meet the city’s budget deficit.

The Air Support Unit has been a part of the department since 1996 and logged more than 13,000 flight hours which included more than 1,400 felony arrests.

The ceremony will be at 1:30 p.m. at 950 Aviation Way.
