Public Enemies (R)
Johnny Depp stars as notorious depression-era gangster John Dillinger, whose charismatic crime spree made him a folk hero to the masses.
America is drowning in the dismal depths of the Great Depression, and all over the country, the common man is harboring a hatred for the Big Bad Banks. Enter charismatic bank robber John Dillinger, folk hero to the masses and the scourge of the FBI. No one could stop Dillinger and his gang. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone but the feds.
The Bureau sends the debonair Agent Melvin Purvis after Dillinger and his gang in an effort to call a halt to the runaway crime spree, but in order to catch a notorious criminal, the lawmen must learn to think like criminals themselves. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptized as agents) and orchestrating epic betrayals -- from the infamous "Lady in Red" to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nitti -- were Purvis, the FBI and their new crew of gunfighters able to close in on Dillinger.
