You said it: Listeners weigh in on Dobson's transition

THE GAZETTE

People in the Pikes Peak region and across the United States who have listened to James Dobson’s “Focus on the Family” radio show weighed in on Dobson leaving Focus and starting his new radio show, ‘Family Talk.’

• “His message is OK, but he’s a lot less tolerant than me. Christ wasn’t intolerant. I took offense when he would say single moms create broken homes, because I was a single mom for 20 years. What he says isn’t true.” — Sandy Carollo of Woodland Park

• “I’ve enjoyed his insight for raising our children. We appreciate his insight.” — Mary Scriber, a Colorado Springs mother of four, has been a listener since 1992.

• “Dr. James Dobson has been my daily source for inspirational encouragement for several years. His down-to-earth approach and his passion for the Lord makes him, in my opinion, the best choice of the air waves. No one would ever doubt his sincerity or love for the Lord. I for one will be looking forward to listening to ‘Family Talk.’” — Yvonne J. Jamison of Diamond Bar, Calif.

• “I have listened to ‘Focus on the Family’ every day for a year and really enjoy it. I hope I will be able to listen to ‘Family Talk’ as well. Why does it have to be a competition? Maybe it was Christians agreeing that another talk show to help people will be a good thing. I don’t know how it happened, but I am glad it did. God bless Dr. Dobson, Ryan, Jim Daly and all his staff.” — Craig Slaughter of Wapello, Iowa.

• “In the 1980s and 1990s, Dobson was an icon in our household and we listened to his program whenever we could .... But, as the world knows, he has delved more into the political realm and has addressed those issues more than he has addressed family issues. A few years ago, my wife and I began to wonder what Dobson’s focus really was. I’m not opposed to Dobson addressing politics. What bothers me is that he appears to think that moral politics can save the U.S. That simply isn’t true. Only by individuals following Jesus and living by his principles will this nation avert disaster.” — Randall Allen of Fruita, Colo.

• “I have listened so long it seems as if he is a family member. His biblical teachings have been a firm foundation to raise my six children on. Having been through a divorce myself and raising my children alone, Dr. Dobson provided Godly advice and counsel for me on his program on a daily basis.” — Jennifer Young of Niles, Mich.

• “Whether his new show will be successful is in God’s hands. I’m sure he’s done a lot of good for a lot of people. But he didn’t do good for me.” — Nick Carollo of Woodland Park
