THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

DOVE CREEK • Two large wildfires are burning in western Colorado.

The most active one is burning on 3,500 acres, or 5 1/2 square miles, near Dove Creek in southwestern Colorado. The Rocky Mountain Coordination Center says it's threatening three homes. There's no estimate yet on when it could be contained.

In northwestern Colorado, a fire near Dinosaur has grown to about 5 square miles but is now 90 percent contained. Coordination center spokesman Steve Segin says weather conditions there have improved but that it's still hot and dry in southwestern Colorado.

Segin says it's possible people to the east may smell smoke from these fires, as well as from some burning across the border in New Mexico.
