Downtown retailers teaming up for sidewalk sale
Dorinda Gianarelli is looking to strength in numbers.
Gianarelli, owner of the downtown shop What’s In Store, 125 N. Tejon St., is one of the organizers of the Down and Dirty Sidewalk Sale set for Friday and Saturday.
About 15 downtown merchants have joined in, and the list keeps growing, Gianarelli said Tuesday.
“Pretty much everybody’s like, yeah, we’ll put stuff out.”
While sidewalk sales aren’t new to downtown, “I think this is the first one that’s included as many merchants as this one will,” said Susan Godec, owner of Phancy Pheasant, 220 N. Tejon.
The idea is simply to provide something different, she said — “something fun for the public to come to.”
Store hours may vary, but the sidewalk sale will generally run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Gianarelli said.
Runners Roost, Zeezo’s Regina’s, Rutledge’s, Title Nine and Mt. Tejon are some of the other retailers taking part.
“We’re going to put out balloons and just make it look pretty festive,” Gianarelli said.
The sale comes as the economic recovery seems to be sputtering in many areas and concern grows about tight-fisted consumers.
“Everyone’s kind of hanging in there,” Godec said of her fellow retailers. “You’ve got your bad days and then you’ve got your really good days.”
Gianarelli’s good days seem to be outnumbering her bad.
“I’m definitely up from last year,” she said, “so I’m thrilled with that.”
