CSU to repair Highline Water Storage Facility
Colorado Springs Utilities is currently working to make improvements to its Highline Water Storage facility at the corner of Mesa and Fillmore. The facility – made up of two 10-million-gallon underground reservoirs – was built in 1958 and serves 24,000 customers. Repair work on the tank’s cover has been done over the years, but existing steel weld points have deteriorated to the extent where CSU felt there was a risk it could collapse and pose a water quality risk.
The repair work is scheduled to take place through 2011. The breakdown in cost looks like this:
2009: $1.6 million for design and start of construction
2010: $5.5 million
2011: $1.5 million
CSU has applied for a low-interest loan through the Colorado Water Resources and Power Development Authority (CWRPDA) to fund the project which should result in an estimated savings of around $2.86 million over the life of the loan.
