The Rev. Rebekah Simon-Peter, a leading speaker on Christian environmentalism, is bringing her message to two area churches this month.

Simon-Peter is founder of Bridge-Works, an environmentally conscious religious nonprofit organization based in Wyoming.

She'll speak at 7 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Fountain, 1003 N. Santa Fe Ave. The event, "Science and Solutions for Communities of Faith," is free. For more information, call 382-5113.

On May 17, Simon-Peter will conduct a workshop, "Climate Change: Science and Solutions for Communities of Faith," from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Wilson United Methodist Church, 6460 Flying W Ranch Road.

The event costs $10 per person, $15 per couple and $20 per family.

"The workshop will offer simple steps for parishes to reduce our carbon footprint," said Keith Watson, senior pastor at Wilson United Methodist Church.

Reservations for "Climate Change" are encouraged and can be made by calling 598-0407.

Harrison school district closer to pay for performance for teachers
Should teacher pay be based on performance?
Yes. Teachers should be rewarded for good work, and poor performers should be weeded out.
No. Pay for performance is just a back-door way of blaming teachers for other problems in the education system.
It depends on what "performance" means. It's good if there's a fair measurement of performance.
Undecided.
