Crews controlling small fire near Broadmoor

Fire crews are working on preventing a small fire near the old Broadmoor ski slopes from spreading, authorities said.

A lighting strike touched down in the area at 12:08 p.m. today, and after two hours of searching fire crews determined that a single tree caught fire. A wildland crew was working on extinguishing the blaze.

With high temperatures and low humidity, conditions are ripe for a wild fire in and around Colorado Springs, Fire Department spokeswoman Lt. Julie Stone said.
