THE GAZETTE

A late-night fire burned a Black Forest home to the ground Tuesday night and kept firefighters on the scene for almost eight hours.

Black Forest fire officials are still investigating what caused the fire at 12240 Milam Road but say that everyone got out of the home and no one was hurt.

The fire started about 9:30 p.m. and firefighters put the fire out about midnight said Black Forest Fire/Rescue Chief David Ury. Firefighters stayed on scene until about 5 a.m. today cleaning up and making sure it was safe. Crews from the tri-lakes area, Gleneagle, Palmer Lake and Falcon were on scene.

Ury said the fire engulfed the house in flames and firefighters had a bit of a tough time because there was no nearby hydrant and water had to be hauled in. Also, a few nearby trees caught on fire but those were quickly extinguished. In the end, the house was a total loss.

“Our heart goes out to the family,” Ury said. “It’s unfortunately one of those things where there’s not much we can do.”
