THE GAZETTE

Nor’wood Development Group, in partnership with Colorado Springs Utilities, will unveil a free, public electric-vehicle charging station next week at the First & Main Town Center on the east side of the Springs.

The public Level II dual charging station is the first in southern Colorado. It will be located in the parking lot in front of the Cinemark Theater.

According to a news release, First & Main Town Center was chosen as a pilot site because of its public exposure and opportunity for extended charging time.

“It’s exciting to be part of this ground-breaking demonstration project,” Utilities CEO Jerry Forte said in the news release. “As a contributor, we will gain more knowledge about electric vehicle technology that will help us better use future renewable energy sources and plan for our community’s energy needs.”

The unit will be unveiled at 10 a.m. Dec. 9 in an event that will include demonstrations and education on electric vehicles. The public is welcome.
