Firefighters have a 42-acre wildfire near Lake George about 75 percent contained, a U.S. Forest Service spokesman said at about 5:30 p.m. Monday.

The fire - 4 miles north of Elevenmile Reservoir and 8 miles southwest of Lake George in Park County - is thought to have been started by a person, said Ralph Bellah of the forest service.

No homes are threatened. The fire is in the Pike National Forest burning through ponderosa pine and grass at about 7,500 feet in elevation.

About 80 firefighters are fighting the fire, including two Hotshot crews from Montana and Wyoming, hand crews, engines, and managers from the U.S. Forest Service and the Lake George Volunteer Fire Department.

The fire was first reported about 1 p.m. Sunday. Officials from the Park County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Forest Service are investigating its origin.

The public should be cautious of fire vehicles on the roadways close to the fire, and area residents will be able to see smoke.
