Homeowner wielding handgun sends burglars running

A man shot at two people who broke into his garage early Sunday morning, though the burglars got away and deputies are investigating whether any of them were hit.

The incident happened about 2:40 a.m. Sunday when the man noticed someone had broken into the garage of his house on the 500 block of Dix Circle, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Lt. Lari Sevene.

Inside the garage, he confronted the two men, pulled out a handgun and fired multiple rounds at them. The two burglars were last seen driving away in a blue or black pickup.

Investigators are still trying to find out if any of the burglars were hit by the homeowner’s bullets, Sevene said.

The entire incident remains under investigation, though the homeowner has not been arrested for shooting at the burglars.

“I don’t think that’s an issue at this point in time,” Sevene said.
