FRAMES OF REFERENCE: Garden of the Gods then and now
As the city's signature park turns 100, a look at how things have changed
Garden of the Gods marks its 100th anniversary this year. Watch the video above for a look at images from the park's history and how it looks today.
At 9 a.m. Oct. 17, a parade to the park will begin at Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center parking lot. All types of park lovers -- hikers, bikers, rock climbers, bird watchers, history revelers -- are invited.
At 10 a.m., the large plaque that bears donator Charles Parkins' wishes that the park "remain free to the public" will be re-dedicated. The plaque is imbedded in North Gateway Rock, at the south end of the Central Garden Trail. Participants will be invited to sign a new proclamation celebrating the gift of the park.
