THE GAZETTE

Sand Creek High School is under a lockdown following a Thursday afternoon shooting that left two dead.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has arrested a teenager whom it believes was responsible for killing two people, 17 and 20. The shooting occurred near Cimarron Eastridge Park off Constitution Avenue with about 20 people present. Falcon School District 49 spokeswoman Amanda Mountain said the school's doors are locked and Colorado Springs Police officers are on scene as a precaution, because the school is not far from where the Thursday incident, which took place about 4 p.m.

Cimarron Eastridge Park is about three miles away from Sand Creek High School. Mountain said it is unknown whether students from Sand Creek were present at the time of the shooting and the lockdown was not prompted by a "specific concern." At this time police are providing security rather than investigating, she said. But she added: "It would not surprise us should they want to utilize some of the Sand Creek people for their investigation, but that is not actively happening yet."

Harrison school district closer to pay for performance for teachers
Should teacher pay be based on performance?
Yes. Teachers should be rewarded for good work, and poor performers should be weeded out.
No. Pay for performance is just a back-door way of blaming teachers for other problems in the education system.
It depends on what "performance" means. It's good if there's a fair measurement of performance.
Undecided.
