Four culinary teams put out their best building gingerbread houses during the Gingerbread & Jazz gala that benefits the Child Nursery Centers Nov. 14. Here are the winners:
First place: The Three Bears by Little London Cake Shoppe
Second place: Nutcracker Suite by Paragon Culinary Art School
Third place: Winter Wedding by First Presbyterian Church
Fourth place: Winter Wonderland by Garden of the Gods Club
New pantry
Extraordinary Ingredients Gourmet Pantry has opened at 612 N. Tejon St. This is the place to go for more than 300 pure exotic ingredients from around the world. The shop stocks micro-greens from a local grower, extra-virgin Turkish olive oil and blends, chiles, heirloom beans, spices and herbs. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Helping hand
This week is the turkey drop for Care and Share at Colorado City Creamery, 2602 W. Colorado Ave. When you take in a turkey, you will get a free single ice cream cone. The goal is to get 100 turkeys for the food bank.
Holiday tea
Get yourself in a holiday state of mind at a cooking demonstration at The Cañon City Queen Anne Tea House, 813 Macon Ave. The classes are held at 2 p.m. the third Saturday each month. The Art of Pie Making will be Saturday (Nov.21). Cost is $29.99 per person and includes scones, Devonshire, tea, recipes, tips and handouts. Call 1-719-275-5354.

Hosea Rosenberg, executive chef at Jax Fish House in Boulder and Bravo’s “Top Chef” season-five winner, and Whole Foods Market are here to help you out with holiday cooking. Holiday wines and spirits
Coaltrain Wine and Liquor will hold its annual Christmas wine sale at The Warehouse Restaurant, 25 W. Cimarron St., 6 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 10. Cost is $35 per person. Call 475-9700.
