Contractor says USOC fix won't cost city any money

A construction project designed to prevent blocks of snow and ice from falling off of the roof of the new U.S. Olympic Committee headquarters again got off the ground Friday.

“We’ll work through the weekend and be complete by Wednesday,” Jim Johnson, president of Springs-based GE Johnson Construction, the general contractor, said in a voice mail message.

On Monday, chunks of snow and ice fell off of the roof of the building at 27 S. Tejon St., damaging four vehicles and forcing the city to block off sidewalks and close streets.

Johnson said the work, which he called a “revised insulation” project, won’t cost the city any money.

“The existing building team met and did a design revision, used a roofing consultant, came up with a proven method, and we’re installing that product,” he said.
