FAITH IN COMMUNITY: Religion news in brief
Anglican group hopes to buy property downtown
St. George’s Anglican Church has been meeting in a rented space in the Mountain Shadows area since Easter, after losing a court battle to remain at the Grace Church building on North Tejon Street.
But that may change soon. The head of the church, the Rev. Don Armstrong, says St. George’s is looking for church property downtown.
“We are in the process of deciding as a congregation to purchase a prime piece of property in the downtown area to establish an Anglican presence in the center of Colorado Springs,” Armstrong wrote in an e-mail. “That site will have a very purposefully designed building to accommodate large worship services, educational programs for all ages, and significant outreach programs."
St. George's was created out of a congregation that split from the Episcopal Church and aligned itself with a conservative group, the Convocation of Anglicans in North America.

Nuns to protest at Peterson AFB
Dozens of Catholic sisters and lay people will gather at the entrance of Peterson Air Force Base at 3 p.m. Aug. 14 for the eighth annual “Sisters Witness Against War.”
“For one hour we will hold a silent vigil, praying for all those entering or leaving the base,” said Sister Barbara Huber, the event organizer and a Sister of Charity from Cincinnati, Ohio. “These folks are among the millions of men and women throughout our nation whose talents and energies allow war-making to be a viable career.”
The gathering will be at the base entrance near East Platte Avenue and Peterson Road. For more information or to participate, call Sister Dorothy Schlaeger, of Mount St. Francis in Colorado Springs, at 955-3742.
