Colorado Springs sets record high temperature
A quick look at any calendar would show more than two weeks left before the official start of summer.
A thermometer might suggest otherwise.
Colorado Springs broke a record high temperature today, hitting 92 degrees at 1:27 p.m. The previous record high for June 5 was 91 degrees, which was set in 2006.
A massive area of high pressure stationed over Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma has brought warm air and a bit of moisture from the south, said Randy Gray, National Weather Service meteorologist.
Forecasters are calling for more record-breaking heat to start the week.
Temperatures are forecast to hit 91 degrees on Monday — possibly breaking the record of 90.
There shouldn’t be much moisture to cool the landscape, however. Any thunderstorms that develop as a result of this weather system should contain more lighting and wind than rain — increasing the risk for fire, Gray said.
