A Palmer High School teacher was taken to Memorial Hospital on Tuesday evening after being hit by a driver who fled the scene, Colorado Springs police said.

Bob Crowder, Palmer High School choir director, was crossing Weber Street at Platte Avenue about 6:30 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle driving east on Platte. Witnesses said he was hit by a blue car traveling at a “high rate of speed,” police Sgt. Jim Sokolik said.

Crowder suffered a broken leg and a dislocated shoulder and was listed in stable condition, said Elaine Naleski, Colorado Springs School District 11 spokeswoman.

He was going to a choir concert at the high school when the car ran him over, Naleski said. The concert was canceled and about 50 of the students and their parents went to the emergency room to await word on his injuries, she said.

Crowder is a co-founder of the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale.
