Five area high school marching bands finished their competitive seasons Saturday among the top eight bands statewide.

In division 5A, Rampart High School finished second among the eight schools that reached the finals competition, sanctioned by the Colorado Bandmasters Association and held at Cherokee Trail High School in Aurora. Rampart scored 78.2; 5A winner Legacy High School, from Broomfield, scored 82.4.

In division 4A, Air Academy High School finished second among the eight finalists, with a score of 80.55. Mesa Ridge High School was 4th (73.1); Fountain-Fort Carson High School 5th (71.05); and Liberty High School 6th (69.9). The 4A winner was Loveland High School (83.0).

Rampart, Air Academy, Fountain-Fort Carson and Mesa Ridge each were state finalist bands in 2008. Liberty competed in its first-ever finals, and its 6th-place finish is the highest in the school's history.
