Colorado Springs firefighters put out two more fires today, bringing a recent rash of home fires up to 10 since Christmas Eve.
The first was at 12:26 a.m. a single family home at 3520 Sydney Terrace. No one was home, and the fire is under investigation. The second blaze was in an apartment bedroom at 8:12 a.m. at 115 S. Academy Blvd. It was caused by two youths playing with a lighter, the Colorado Springs Fire Department said.
The string of house fires - most caused by negligence - turned tragic Tuesday when a fire killed the occupant of a home on Lockhaven Drive. Her name hasn't been released.
Fire officials are urging people to evaluate their homes for dangers caused by fireplaces, furnaces, space heaters and other potential hazards.
