Burglars caught red-handed

A pair of burglars looting a north Colorado Springs home in broad daylight got a a surprise when they tried to get away - the police were waiting for them.

Joseph Ruff, 21, and Joseph Gillins, 26, were arrested on suspicion of burglarizing a home Thursday morning in the 1400 block of Bison Ridge Drive, Colorado Springs police reported.

Police responded to a report of a burlgary in progress at the home about 10:45 a.m. and determined that two men were inside. Officers surrounded the home and a short time later the garage door opened.

An officer tackled one of the suspected burglars before he could get into their car, a silver Pontiac. The other suspect drove off, nearly running over officers as he fled. The car was stopped on Centennial Boulevard and the driver arrested.

Police found belongings believed to have been stolen from the home in the car.
